Don't you just love love?
As I have just recently began building my wedding portfolio, I have had the AMAZING privilege of photographing two beautiful weddings. I have learned SO much and can't wait to share my new perspective on what these magical days are like. I do plan to try a few more intimate, small weddings, but I already have a feeling weddings may not be my bread and butter! For now, here are some of my initial thoughts!
logistics
This part is TERRIFYING. With constant changing lighting, a tight timeline, and wrangling people that are going in a thousand different directions - it is truly a test of professionalism, knowledge of your camera settings, SPEED, and photo composition. If I can gain some confidence in this area, I think I can enjoy weddings a whole lot more. I am so aware of it, though, and I think that has taken me far in these first two weddings. Of course, I already look back and notice instances where I should have gotten that certain shot, or changed the angle, or backed up a few steps for better composition.
favorite part
When the bride and groom get to have their quiet moment together..it's such an honor to be there to capture those moments. The elegance and emotion behind each picture..UGH it's to-die-for. I think this is why I am super interested in elopements - all the glamour and beauty of weddings - but with fewer logistics- or so I'd like to think! That being said - if you are on the hunt for an elopement photographer I would LOVE to chat!!
tips i've learned
- Remind everyone they're going to be in pictures ALL day long!!! They should have a smile or pleasant look on their face any time they're around the couple, and especially during the ceremony!
- Have some key poses in mind that are MUSTS, and then branch off from there. This goes for couple portraits and bridal party especially. When time runs out - what poses do you absolutely need? I wish I had nailed this idea down before!
- Juggling all equipment to have it when you need it. I am SO glad I had a plan for which lenses to use at what point in the day. I use all primes & have one camera body (for now!) This requires planning out what types of shots to take, when to change out the lens so that you don't miss out on something, and having them available to do this QUICKLY. I searched for weeks for the perfect sized shoulder bag or belt bag (I didn't mind if it was specifically for cameras or not). A backpack was just not the go-to for quick changes. In theory, if I continue weddings, I would love to have two camera bodies, and a solid zoom lens on one & my favorite prime on the other!
